Abstract

The human tooth enamel of ten archaeological individuals belonging to three consecutive phases of habitation at the Chalcolithic site of Inamgaon, District Pune, Maharashtra, was procured. The sample set included tooth enamel from two individuals (both sub-adults) of Period I and four individuals (all adults) each of Period II and Period III. Enamel carbonate of twenty teeth (n=20), two each from the 10 selected individuals, were analysed to understand variations in isotope ratios during the lifetime of an individual and amongst individuals across the three habitational phases. The isotopic results δ13C and δ18O provided palaeodiet and palaeoclimatic information including the age of weaning.
