Abstract

The dataset includes stable nitrogen and carbon isotope information collected for the purpose of studying the timing of breastfeeding practices in diverse regions and historical periods. These data were sourced from multiple published references, each meticulously documented within the dataset. The primary goal was to scrutinize regional disparities, temporal and cultural trends, socio-political and economic parameters in the timing of breastfeeding in Europe and the Mediterranean, spanning from Prehistory to the Middle Ages. This project sought to offer a readily accessible resource of isotope data for both the academic community and the broader public.
